GCash App Setup: Verified Wallet, Limits and the August 2025 Change

Before any peso moves, the gcash app should be ready: installed from the right place, verified, and understood. The setup below follows that order and ends with a plain statement of what the wallet no longer handles. Mind the date: on August 16, 2025, GCash removed licensed gaming cash-in and payout services from inside the app, a move BSP Memorandum M-2025-029 required.

GCash app: install it from its own store page

Open Google Play or the App Store yourself and search for GCash. Skip any link that someone pasted, and skip any wallet build that arrives from a casino chat; the wallet has one app. The APK checks and the iPhone steps cover installs in general. Register with a SIM that is yours.

Quick check: the app should ask for a code sent to your own number, never for a card number up front.

Verify with one valid government ID

A new account begins at Basic, which covers bills, load, cash-in and paying by QR. Moving up to Fully Verified brings send money, bank transfer and further features. You must show one valid ID in physical form. Photocopies are refused, and only the National ID is exempt.

1. Go to Profile, pick Verify Now and tap Get Started.
2. Read the on-screen reminders, then enter the 6-digit code.
3. Add your birthday and Filipino citizenship.
4. Choose the ID type and scan the card.
5. Take the selfie scan, review, and tap Submit.

Expect an SMS notice about a week later; GCash puts it at 7 days.

Limits in force from 1 October 2026

New wallet and transaction limits took effect at GCash on 1 October 2026. The table comes from its limits article, so reopen that article before a large transfer.

Linked number: same name on both sides

Money in and out should travel through an account in your own name. GG Panalo’s Terms warn that paying in or cashing out via any route other than the registered account can lead to the account being suspended. The lobby’s FAQ also names GCash and Maya among its deposit channels and notes that channels can undergo maintenance, which may delay a deposit.
